Work Away Revelstoke

We recently had our first experience with Work Away, an online community that brings travelers needing a place to stay and hosts that need some helping hands together. In exchange for a certain amount of work each day, the traveller gets accommodations and sometimes meals. We spent the past week at the Base Camp Guest House just outside of Revelstoke, British Columbia in Canada and had a wonderful experience. Our hosts Christiane and Lorne were very generous and we stayed in one of their guest houses which made a perfect home base to explore Revelstoke. We helped them plant a bunch of new trees, hearty grasses and ground cover on the property in the familiar scramble to get everything done before winter. We also helped out by taking their dogs Pickle and Olive on lots of hikes which was a great reason to get out on some of the local trails. We are also very grateful that our time coincided with Canadian Thanksgiving and that our hosts invited us to share in the festivities. We’re looking forward to more Work Away opportunities in the future and think it is a great way to get some different experiences out of traveling, meet people and stay in a place longer while helping out the budget.
