Baresnax: Jamu
Besides the cool name, Jamu is a drink that packs a huge health punch. Jamu is an Indonesian drink made with turmeric, ginger, lime, and honey. It was Mia’s favorite drink on our travels as it was sure to fix an uneasy stomach any day. Now it’s getting highlighted as a drink being used to fight coronavirus because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Indonesians have been drinking this for years to boost the immune system and prevent ailments ranging from menstrual pains, tumors, colds, body aches, to indigestion.
Disclaimer: it has not been proven to cure or prevent coronavirus, but with some parts of the world opening back up, it’s never a better time to boost our immune systems and may help with some other underlying issues too! Regardless, it’s a sweet and tangy drink to mix up your routine.
To make a simple Jamu at home, gather some:
Tumeric, Ginger, Lime, Honey, and Black Pepper
(You can use dried tumeric and ginger but fresh roots will make for a better taste and more potent drink.)
Blend freshly peeled turmeric and ginger with water.
Boil the mixture for 20 minutes.
Add fresh lime juice and honey and a tiny pinch of black pepper.
Strain it.
Pour it into a glass with ice or into a bottle to refrigerate.
Can be served hot or cold.
