Home for the Holidays
This year we thought about where in the world (literally) we wanted to spend the holidays. Larry had never spent a holiday season outside of Colorado and Mia hadn’t had Christmas off of work in 8 years. Of all the places we could have seen, we decided to pick one that would mean a lot to us. We surprised Mia’s mom at the airport in San Jose, Costa Rica. She thought we were dropping her off to continue to travel. Instead, we had booked ourselves on the same flight back to Mia’s home town in upstate, NY. Being in Mia’s home for the holidays has us thinking about our own feelings of home.
In the past 9 months we have made homes in spider filled rooms in Nepal, a bungalow in Thailand, on the beach in Hawaii, in a tent on black rock cliffs, a 51 person per room hostel in Japan, an upscale hotel room in Malaysia, a moss covered pod in the Malaysian rainforest, a guest house in Canada, a converted shipping container, and guest rooms of gracious friends and family members. Needing a little inspiration, we turned to www.wiseoldsayings.com. Here are some of our favorite home quotes that we found. Hopefully they will help you find home this holiday season.
“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” - Maya Angelou
“For the two of us, home isn’t a place. It is a person. And we are finally home.” - Stephanie Perkins
“ A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.” - George Moore
“Home is not where you live but where they understand you.” - Christian Morgenstern
“Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.” - Robert Frost
We love finding “home” quotes when we’re traveling. Do you have any to share? If so contact us! We’d love to hear your home inspiration.
Happy Holidays
